Ok guys,

I know we've talked about tanks before. Even made some prelim plans. Last night I spent considerable time going thru the goverment surplus auction site. Actually, I was hoping to come across a used hummer.

Anyway, I came across several golf carts & even an ATV that is fairly close to being ready for tank conversion. Of course, you don't really know what shape these babies are in unless you inspect them. These babies are located on various military bases.

A lot of you are ex-military & some are current. Do you have any connections? Are you familiar (or can you become) with this stuff & how the system works?

I don't mind putting up some money for this & I don't mind trveling to get stuff within reason (I'd say, this half of the U.S.), but I don't really want to go it completely alone. I know this--this isn't slacker teritory--you generally have 14 days after paying to arrange everything & pickup anything bought.

I'm interested in getting a trailer anyway and plenty seem to be for sale--with a little luck, a future tank, along with a trailer to pull it home on could be had at the same time, same location.

Thoughts?

Also, does anyone have motor rebuilding skills? If so, buying something with a bad engine wouldn't be that much of an issue. Then we could focus more on the overall vechile and worry about the engine when we get it home.

Take the engine out of Doc's new baby, good on gas and quiet as well. He can pedal it for a while. lol Maybe an electric golf cart would be better, no fuel and sneaky quiet on the field. Need to also consider the weight factor, how many occupients, and how we will feed the beast when we start blasting away.

I don't have any connections but if they're military I might be able to put in a good word or work the purchase for you through me. I don't have any real motor skills but I know OB does and I would imagine knowing some of the guys that there is a mechanic or two in our midst.

Ok, sounds good Doc. Actually I figured if by chance that whatever we are interested in happenes to be at Ft. Jackson, I figured they would let you mosey on over & take a long look at it.

And also, electric golf carts are available at the US surplus site as well ANd yes they are quiet & deadly. However, can we get them re-charged at a field? That's my only concern, other than being underpowered sometimes. 1 of each might be best--at PBCharlestown, we had a nosiy tank drive up & stop in front of a large group of us hiding in some woods & behind some smal mounds--I think you were there Doc--anyway a dagburn electric tank came up from behind while we were focused on the first tank--they had it planned that way--and shot many of us up.

We could do the same with 1 gas & one electric--or we could just design one tank to be able to make a lot of noise at will (mmmmm) so the other could sneak up behind.

Now I need a trailer to haul at least one tank in. I'd prefer a trailer with a double-axel (4 tires), because those are more stable & easier to pull. But I didn't see any military trailers made like that for sale. Anybody know if such an animal exsists in the service?

I'm sure you could use a generator to charge the golf truck at away games and whatever... However, if the batteries are bad, doesn't cost an *assload to replace them?

*assload definition = More than a lot, but less than a shitload.

I think they are rather expensive, but considering that golf carts are very expensive to buy, at least where I live. So having to buy batteries if the cart itself is cheap shouldn't be that bad in the big picture of things, but I'll look in to that.

Anybody know of any working golf cart bargains?
